Did you know you could turn your farmhouse into an island paradise with farmhouse wood bead garland? This is one of my favorite farmhouse home decor ideas. I love the look it gives a farmhouse, especially when the beads and wood are in shades of pink, peach, or blue. Wood Bead Garlands can be strung all around the house (hence the name!)
How to make a Coastal Farmhouse Wood Bead Garland… Now, this is a no brainer, really. Just buy some wooden beads in every color of the rainbow, and any pattern you can find, and then gather up all the smaller sized beads that you can find. These will be your “mountains” for your coastal farmhouse wood bead garland.
First, we need to start out by getting some more large beads so we can line them up in rows. You can use a regular size or big size twine or wire cutter to do this. Next, line these up in pairs (use the same color on each pair), in different colors, then onto the top row. The second row is made the same way but using only the smaller beads. Once you have lined all the way up, tie the strings together and string your farmhouse wood bead garland up.
Next, we are going to add some details to our farmhouse style garland. We will do this by spraying paint on our beads and then attaching them to each other. For our farmhouse design, we will do a lot of blue for the doors, and pink for the windows. And of course, we will add some green to the rest of it!
After we have everything attached, take a close look at your project. You should be able to see your twine through the beads! If the twine is showing, or is showing in places you can’t see through the beads, then cut it. If you do not want to cut it, you can just use a small section of your large tassel to pin everything down.
Use your spray paint to paint the area. When you are doing this, make sure that you only put one coat on. Using two coats makes the paint too thick. If you try to put three or more coats on it, the paint will drip. That is OK though; if it happens to drip, it does not mean that the beads are not doing the job. All it means is that you did not apply enough paint.
When you are finished, take your scrap wood and cut the pieces to the same size as the holes in the middle of the wooden beads. Then attach the twine with the dowel to the bottom of your farmhouse wood bead garland. Do not put the other end of the twine through the beads. Then you will be able to hang it up on the wall and enjoy it!
Of course, you can also attach different types of wooden beads to the twine. This will let you change up the colors of your farmhouse garland. There are a lot of ideas out there that you can use this type of bead stringing with. Just have fun!
To make this project a little less DIY friendly, you could purchase some plastic and metal wooden beads for about a dollar each. Buy some hot glue guns to attach the beads to the twine and to the wall. You can then attach the beads onto the dollar tree in the farmhouse. If you do not want to buy any beads, you could always use hot glue guns to attach a plain wooden bead to the wall. Of course, you would need to be creative and crafty enough to improvise and make something unique for your dollar tree!
If you do not want to spray paint your farmhouse wood bead garland, then you might be able to save a few bucks buying decorations at the craft store instead of spray painting it. The craft stores usually carry lots of different shapes and colors of beads and they will usually be more expensive than the craft stores. That being said, they also carry other types of garlands and wreaths so you should be able to find something that you like!
Once you have attached the garland to the wall with the beads, you can then attach the twine around the neck of the farmhouse. Use the spray paint to color the wooden beads and the twine and then carefully attach it to the neck using the twine again. Use lots of glue on the parts that are not covered by the beads. Before you leave it to dry, you might want to add a little extra glue to make sure that the entire garland stays in place. Finally, trim off any excess beads and enjoy your beautiful handmade Christmas tree!
